It was only a couple of weeks ago that I was reporting on claims that Audi were considering reinventing the TT sports car into a 4-door coupe. Given the comments I received on that particular blog, I can confirm that the rumours went down with people about as well as a hand-gliding hippo. But now, I’m delighted to inform you that the TT won’t become a 4-door coupe as initially thought.
During an interview with Australian publication CarAdvice, Audi’s head of communications addressed the issue of a 4-door TT by saying: “Actually we had the idea of a TT ‘family’, so to speak. Not so much anymore. I think the TT is an icon, and to do a family (car) out of that is quite difficult. And especially in these times where we have to concentrate more and more, because we have to do gasoline and diesels on the one side, and electrification on the other side.”
Audi TT Offroad concept from 2014. Yes, an actual human being thought it was a good idea!
The TT “family” that he references doesn’t merely speak of the 4-door TT family car they were planning - but also the TT crossover they had in the works back in 2014. Just 4 years ago, this ghastly plan to use the TT name on every type of car imaginable was one that Audi supported. We can only thank the Gods of common sense that it’s not something they wish to pursue now.
But now, I want to ask you guys: does this fill you with joy, or did you quite like the idea of a 4-door TT? Let me know in the comments.
