Audi has halted production of multiple models

All because of the ongoing semiconductor chip crisis.

This week, Audi has been facing severe issues concerning production at two of its factories in German due to the ongoing semiconductor chip crisis.

As a result of this, production of the A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, and Q2 has been brought almost to a complete halt, with the A8 still being produced but at a much slower rate. The R8 and e-tron GT however remain unaffected.

Audi has confirmed that all employees working on these halted models are being put on “short-term work” for the near future.

We still await further news concerning Audi’s restocking plans.

  • As Audis are just VWs in a posh frock, has any of the comparable models from the same kennel been stopped?

It is probably a decision made by accountants to only make the most profitable, overall, model of cars. To do anything else would be barmy.

  • That's great.

A lot of people will be spared the grief and save a tonne of money by not buying an Audi.

    • Well I think of them as expensive bombs, but I am probably older and don't quite believe they are reliable now.

  • I don't remember where I got this info, may have been an article on here but from what I understand the vast majority of economy cars being produced today use an older style of semi-conductor while electric vehicles and some higher-end performance vehicles have been designed to adapt to a newer style that you see in TVs and other commodities that use the global chip supply chain. This is why the A series cars and their mini-SUV, platform sharing sibling Q2 are affected but the E-tron and R8 can solider on as is. So really, in my opinion, the best defense against this crisis is a good offense. Larger manufacturers like Audi (VW) should be pushing for new platforms / technology to dig out quicker, rather than waiting for the supply chain to fix itself. Like for example VW's already planned MEB platform for the I.D series (audi e-tron), if that uses the new style chips then they are in the clear from this.

  • I am pretty sure that it’s supposed to say in “Germany” and not in “German” 😉 proofreading is a great process.
