  • F1 is boring whilst they keep messing with hybrid engines, but formula E is even more boring because they are just not fast. It's better since they don't have to stop half way through, but it's still not exciting like the roar of a V8 or V10 normally aspirated gas guzzler. Never will be. I know the manufacturers want to use it as a test ground for their new hybrid engines, but it's just boring.

I do not know why we as a race are going down the battery line, why not keep combustion engines and retrofit them to run on hydrogen? No range anxiety as you can fill up as fast as we do now with petrol or diesel, no BIG issue down the line when all these batteries come to end of life and we don't know what to do with them other then yet more toxic waste going into landfill. And don't get me started on the costs of shipping the materials to make the batteries all around the world on diesel tankers and the power stations burning fossil fuels or creating nuclear waste to supply the electric to charge the damn things up.

It seems to me that using electric in your car may make you feel better at the point of use, but what about all the other mess that is generated to get you to that point.

Some will say that the only way to produce hydrogen is by using electric, but I have read that there are other ways of producing hydrogen as a bi-product of desalination plants or by using bacteria on landfill waste sites to produce it.

Another negative I have heard is that because the air a hydrogen engine would burn contains a lot of Nitrogen you wouldn't just get water vapour out the tail pipe you would also get nitrous oxide as well. If that's the case, then I am sure the Boffins of Formula One could figure out the science to pipe that back into the engine and burn it for extra boost!?

How about governments paying all of us with petrol or diesel cars a subsidy to have our cars converted to hydrogen and give all the current petrol stations a subsidy to fit hydrogen tanks and pumps so we have instant hydrogen infrastructure??

    • This. I will go ahead and say that the near future and the decades to come won't be electric, just because airplanes can't run on batteries. Hydrogen Power will be the choice to overcome that part, just because it's cheaper to retrofit and...

    • Recyclers are already chomping at the bit for the batteries and they have been flying and testing battery and solar powered aircraft, well since the dawn of aviation, now they even work .

  • I know that what the man says in this clip is supposed to show how outdated F1 is.... But somehow everything he says just emphasizes how cool racing with combustion engines is... 😅

  • Is this supposed to entice me to watch Formula E? The commercials tries to show me excitement by using a bunch of noise and music where the sound of the engine should be. This is just sad.

  • The only thing I don't like about Formula E is that the cars sound like tinnitus. Oh and Nelson Piquet Jr. He should've been permanently banned from FIA sanctioned events in 2009.

  • Win the Lemans 24 hour race with one of these and I'll accept them as a serious alternative to a combustion engine, at the moment though, they're just expensive dodgems.
