Autopilot Drives from San Francisco to New York without any Human Intervention
Ladies and gentlemen, a true milestone has been achieved. Pronto.AI, a startup company has announced that they've completed a coast-to-coast autonomous drive, from San Francisco to New York, and get this - without any human interventions. The whole trip was done by the AI.
The 3,099-mile trip across the United States took a modified Toyota Prius four days to complete, starting on October 29. It is the distance ever recorded for an autonomous vehicle without human taking over.
This milestone also beats Elon Musk's promise that his Tesla cars will be the first to do this kind of thing.
As you can see on the video, the car stopped for regular refuelling and sleeping of the 'driver', but other than that, it's a straight drive. Almost like a person delivery!
The company plans to release a driver assistant Co-Pilot in a span of one year, as a $5,000 aftermarket installation for the trucks. It will not be fully autonomous and will require a camera to make sure the driver is alert, but Pronto.ai says, it's an important step in teaching cars how to drive the way people do.
