Back to the future: The classical work of Retro EV

When I was at the NEC Classic Motorshow on the 11 of November, I wandered around, trying to take it all in but one car stood out. A dark green MG A sat with its bonnet open, a lovely shiny engine sat in place, then I had to look again. It was electric.

Retro EV specialise on designing and restoring classic vehicles with the hope that they can be kept for many more years to come. They have created a battery and drivetrain that can be changed and updated with ease and without disruption to the body shape. This is turn means Classic cars and potentially any car, can be up-cycled rather than scrapped.

But don't take my word for it, Michael M. Richardson who is the CEO and founder, took the time to have a little chat about what they get up to in Finland and what they want to do in the future. So, grab a cup of tea and settle down to this slight noisy interview. (I'm sorry in advance, Motorshows are very noisy.)

  • If one of these was entered in a car show i would deny it due to the fact it isn't original. I don't like this idea. People buy a classic car want to go back to a time where you could maintain your car yourself. Plus because of the sounds they make when driven. Turning them into vacuum cleaners is not something I agree on.

    • Hey, I respect that, I just like the idea of a classic EV, some do, some don't - that is what makes cars different. If we all liked the same thing, there would only be 3 vehicles around: a...
