Bahrain to host pre-season testing for the F1 2021 season
Spain has been dropped as the pre-season testing venue.
F1 pre-season testing was due to take place in Catalunya, Spain this March as usual, however, due to changes in the F1 calendar, Bahrain will now host testing.
Testing was originally due to take place at the beginning of March on the 2nd - 4th, but due to the later start to the season, after the postponement of the Australian Grand Prix, Bahrain will host now testing on March 12th - 14th. Testing will be followed by the F1 2021 season opener at the Bahrain track on March 28th, two weeks after testing,
As a result of this, it means that teams will find it harder to fly parts back and forth during testing due to the longer distance from their factories. However, this decision from Formula One makes logistical sense and will save costs for the teams as they can stay put in Bahrain for a few weeks instead of traveling.
Although, the F1 teams will have the opportunity to conduct 100km of filming days with their cars at any track of their choice before testing even begins, if they have the time and resources to do this. Although, some teams may choose to conduct these filming days at the Bahrain track between testing and the first race.
