Barkas B1000-1

The Barkas B1000-1 isn't as old as it might look. It's an east German van that was built in 1990 and 1991 and had a 58 hp four cylinder engine that was built under VW's license. After the GDR collapsed and the Barkas' production was stopped there, it was planned to relocate production to Russia, but the project failed due to the lack of investors.

  • I used to ride a few times in one as a kid. Loud and slow but somehow charming.

It was in production from 1961 to 1991. For the 60s it looked modern, in the early 70s - alright. Since then it was pretty dated, mostly engine wise. Pretty cabale for moving things around albeit the 1000 cc engine.
