BeamNG.drive’s crash physics vs real world
How close can a game simulator get to real-world crash physics
After my recent BeamNG.drive article I decided to actually play the game after two years of it gathering digital dust. Once I’d succeeded in destroying a metric tonne of cars in the name of ‘research’, I found myself wondering, how close is BeamNG.drive crash physics compared to the real world?
The quest to confirm this question led me straight to the official game forums where I asked the question and was promptly met with some ridicule. Once the digital pitch forks had been put away a very helpful user pointed me to this clip by DragCarTV which attempts to prove how close the in game physics are to real-world.
DragCarTV has recreated a number of common crash-test scenarios and managed to reproduce them in stunning detail when compared to the real-world counterparts.
The clip description explains that the real-world footage comes from several TV Shows including Top Gear, Fifth Gear and Mythbusters along with crash tests taken from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and DTC (dynamic test centre). This game footage was only possible thanks to BeamNG’s thriving modding community, who create and publish a huge array of additional cars and tracks for the title.

That's not on the highest graphics settings. You should see the game now, It's come a long way since this video!
or the writer of this article just passes minimum requirements to run the game ;)
great game, to bad it's only for destructions, and you get a onetoned feeling of it
I personally like how focused it is, fills in a certain niche. There are many other fully fleshed out car games :)
And the mod community is huge, especially now that the automation crossover update was released, the ability to create a car from the ground up, and personalize it, and be able to drive around in it, in your favorite maps, and with insane cars...
Read moreI almost think that due to the nature of game development in 2017 it would almost be expected of a game, especially one dedicated to cars, to have a very advanced physics engine. Still impressive none the less :)
That's pretty impressive!
