Beast battles ep. 2: bmw m's/f30 vs e30
If you're initial thought is that one has a lot more horse power then the other, you probably shouldn't be reading this.
Each day beasts are born in massive numbers, in all corners of the world. As time passes they get old and only the best beasts of each generation still manage to take you back to the era they come from.
You may be younger then the beast from the 1980's you stumble upon the street. Some are 20 years older then your average high schooler, and one of the good ones is gonna teleport a small part of you to those times when everyone tucked-in their shirts.
For our battle, the V8 gods decided to show us the differences, or absences, in soul and character between old and new-born beasts. To do so they want us to look at the icon that is the E30 BMW M3 and it's much younger grandchild the F30 BMW M4. Our first beast is born in 1986 whilst the second in recent 2014. If you're initial thought is that one has a lot more horse power then the other, you probably shouldn't be reading this.
We should, instead, take a serious look at what's happening to car sizes. I mean just look at the M4! It looks like it eat way too much metal and carbon at the factory compared to the slim M3. And it's not just these two relatives. Take a look at other beast clans too. The new Mercedes C-class might as well be an S-class. They look identical for Christ's sake! Car-obesity is real, and it's happening!
Getting back to our two rivals thou, can someone explain how 28 years added 400 kg to a car? The M4 weighs a massive 1.600 kg whilst his grandfather comes just above a tone, at 1.200 kg. Length and width wise the M4 might as well be a 7-series compared to the E30 M3. So one is a lot bigger then the other, let's just assume that wouldn't be a problem in a beast of this type. And much heavier! Still, how do we justify the over-stressed heart of our baby-beemer, compared to it's grandfather's much more relaxed, naturally aspirated engine?
It's almost art-deco. Isn't it?
That twin-turbo 3.0 liter won't, ney can't, hold those 431 horses forever. In fact it'll probably crack the turbos every 10k miles if you guide the beast like a proper warrior would. One of them at least.I know 197 horses from a 2.3 litter don't sound as impressive as 431 from 3 litters of twin-turbo this-and-that, but if your prefer numbers on paper instead of soul on the road, I'm afraid you don't have either. IQ wise, that is, if you didn't get the 'numbers' part of the insult.
Just imagine the E30's light body swerving on mountain bends, you connecting with it's naturally aspirated heart while whipping it's manual gears to death and forget about cars that are just that, feel like video-games, and just look the part. The V8 gods hold a special place, on the big racetrack in the sky, for beasts like the E30 BMW M3. We should all thank'em for it.

E92 for me all day, that roaring 4litre v8 is an animal. Though I would like the looks of the new m4 with a v8 engine 😍

seriously, noone asking witch one is faster... You deserve F82.7 + 1/2 :D
I'm a sucker for anything N/A and that V8 does sound a certain way, I have to agree Noah, but the E92 is a bit too heavy for my taste. A great beast nonetheless, I just like'em thinner.
Interesting read! And yet... I'd have neither.
Rather an E92 M3 is the M3 I'd go for. That naturally aspirated V8 just sounds glorious- arguably even more intoxicating than the straight-sixes from yesteryear and today.
Thoughts?
