The car that featured in the film Grease is on the market

Featuring great singing, amazing dancing, a superb cast and a fun storyline, the 1978 film Grease has something for everyone. For the inner five-year-old in all of us, there is even a focus on the American car community of the 1950s.

During most of the film, John Travolta’s crew, the T-Birds, spends time turning an old 1948 Ford Deluxe into a storm drain blasting hot-rod. After one of the most iconic singing sections of the film showing the T-Birds working tirelessly on the car while singing Greased Lightnin’, the famous “Greased Lightning” car emerges from the garage.

And the very car that wins the race on Thunder Road against Leo is now available for one lucky person that can live out the hay day of hot rodding for real. In fact, the heavily modified Deluxe has recently appeared on My Classic Garage for a price of $179,995. Not bad for a car that’s had John Travolta’s arse on the driver’s seat.

Not only does it have celebrity bum sweat in it, the Deluxe also features a rather impressive Chevrolet 350 engine, a unique set of tail fins and a see-through bonnet. The dashboard is covered in cow print whereas the rest of the interior could be described as more sedate with traditional leather.

This car’s story is a lot more complex than that of most movie cars. In fact, when its previous owners wanted to fully restore the car, it was sent to from New York to California where one of its original creators was set to give it a new lease of life. However, halfway through the build, the person in charge of the restoration died leaving the car unused and unloved for many years. Hopefully its next owner can show it what life should be like for a retired celebrity.

  • As much as I love cars and the movie, it’s a little much.

    • Well, since it’s technically from a dream sequence in the movie it’s meant to be over the top ridiculous. The actual car is much more tame.

    • It just looks a bit NFS Underground... lol. Do you get what I’m saying? I think the main issue for me is the lightning bolts. But that’s just me.

  • That's awesome can you come with this car to Holland so that you can show this car. I give a surprise for my wifes 50 birthday, it looks great if we sit in it and watch this movie.
