Ask anyone about motorsport and they'll be able to rattle off a list of drivers they admire, despise or feel neutral about. Ask anyone about the people Behind The Sport and, lets be honest, unless you are actively involved with a motorsport club by being a driver or a volunteer, you will probably not be able to mention the names of the volunteers out there who keep things running as smooth as possible.
One of these people Behind The Sport is 25 year old Tyler Morley who is one of the Fire & Rescue / Recovery crew at Barbagallo Raceway, Western Australia. Chances are if you've ever driven at Barbagallo in the last 2-3 years and come unstuck heading into Turn 1 or the notorious Turn 7, Tyler, or Captain Chaos as his name tag reads, has been one of the first faces you would have seen to get you out of the sand traps or in the unfortunate instance of having something set alight, be the one standing there with fire extinguisher in hand to reduce the amount of damage to your vehicle.
I caught up with Tyler after the Powercruise 78 event to have a quick chat and find out more about one of the people Behind the Sport.

FIRST OFF, "CAPTAIN CHAOS", HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT?
"Well when I usually say "I'm bored" or "It's too quiet" nine times out of ten not long after I've said either one or both of those things, someone either goes off into a sandtrap or brakes down on the circuit. Last year for my birthday Danielle Meyn (current Vice President of Wanneroo Flag Marshal Association) bought me a shirt which had a character called "Captain Chaos" on it and from there the nickname "Captain Chaos" has stuck with me as when I'm around, there is bound to be Chaos of some sort!"
WHAT WAS BEHIND YOUR DECISION TO GET INTO MOTORSPORT?
"It was my Dad's idea actually, we went up to Barbagallo Raceway for a few car Race Meetings where I spectated and he was pit crewing for his boss who races in the Historic Touring Cars, then a ear or so later we were both flag marshaling and then I started off as a Flag Marshal about 9 years ago, over the years I started doing Fire/Recovery for Member Tuning Days and have stuck with doing that role mainly for the last 2-3 years while still doing Flag Marshaling for some events. Dad is currently the president of the Wanneroo Flag Marshal Association."
WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST REWARDING MOMENT IN YOUR CURRENT OR A PAST ROLE IN MOTORSPORT?
“This might sound silly but for me it would be meeting and talking to the drivers who participate in tuning days and race meetings or any other events I may attend.”
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE CATEGORY OF RACING?
“Without a doubt the Holden HQ’s. I love watching them go 3-4 cars wide into a corner where there really should only be 2.”

WHAT HAS BEEN A CHANGE TO MOTORSPORT THAT YOU HAVE SEEN SINCE GETTING INVOLVED?
"One memorable change is adding the Hyundai Excel class, they get good numbers in their fields at Race Meetings and always put on good racing."
HOW LONG DO YOU THINK YOU’LL KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING?
"I don't think I'll be stopping anytime soon... Motorsport is extremely addicting and even though I'm not competing, maybe one day I might get behind the wheel"

DO YOU HAVE ANY GOALS WITHIN YOUR ROLE TO MOVE FORWARD OR DO OTHER THINGS IN MOTORSPORT?
"One goal at the moment is to go over and do an event at Bathurst.. Such a great track and would be awesome to see it in person some day."
IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING ABOUT MOTORSPORT RIGHT NOW, WHAT WOULD IT BE?
"I don't have anything that I would really change right now to be honest."
THANKS FOR THE QUICK CATCH UP TYLER!
Keep an eye out for Tyler if you're ever out at Barbagallo Raceway, Western Australia. Easily found with his Captain Chaos name tag!
