In the first wet qualifying session of 2017 and Spa was predictably unpredictable with everyone receiving conflicting radio messages about the weather. The rain stayed away till the end of the session and caught out Sergio Sette Camara who spun it and brought out the red flag. With just 3 minutes 43 remaining, they got back under way and set about trying to beat Leclerc’s early lap, 6 tenths clear at the top. Nobody was able to improve and with Oliver Rowland pushing like mad, he dropped it into turn 7 on his last attempt, leaving him in third overall behind his teammate, Nicholas Latifi who joins Leclerc on the front row to record his best starting position. De Vries took sixth on his first outing in the Racing Engineering and his replacement at Rapax, Louis Deletraz took thirteenth. De Vries’ stand-in teammate for the weekend, Roberto Merhi, impressed with an eighth place finish. Luca Ghiotto is under investigation for impeding, so positions are provisional. The Feature Race takes place Saturday at 16.00 (local time) #F2 #BelgianGP
