Bentley ready to smash Pikes Peak record
Pikes Peak International Hill Challenge is one of the most challenging automotive events in the world. You may ask why is that? Well, because the race is an upwards climb towards the summit of Pikes Peak which stands at 14,100 feet! The race begins at 9300 feet. Such a drastic change of altitude is very challenging to face both for the driver and the car.
The weather can change severely in under minutes from clear blue skies to snow. Also, the density of air is much thinner at such high altitudes making the amount of oxygen present in the air lesser than what it is at sea level. For this reason, it puts a considerable strain on the man and machine that attempt it.
Former Pikes Peak veteran Rhys Millen also known as "King of the Mountain" will attempt to break the current record of 10:26.9.
The above record is for the outright production car category. Bentley last year broke the record for SUV category with the Bentley Bentayga.
This year they are attempting it in a Bentley Continental GT W12 which has gone under extensive testing to prepare for this moment.
Mark your calendars for June 30th, to witness Bentley break records.
