I recently saw a Drivetribe question posted on Facetubes asking what car has the greatest rear view & it surprised me that there was not a lot of 911 arses being posted there? The original post is below & as you can see they have used a McLaren with a big silly looking wing on the back as the cover pic. Sorry but that is not a great bum you must be joking guys, its not even close. Yeh maybe on the planet Boron where the Transformers live this bum would be highly sought after. But on the planet Earth where humans live we need smooth textures, flowing lines, easy on the eyes, we need something that makes us feel special even excited., we need to get our pulses racing, we need to..........take a cold shower I will be right back!
So what constitutes a great rear view? Come on we all know this because the universal (earth) language is one of a sleek yet very shapely behind with perfect proportions that is pleasing to the eye & functional as well. Yes I AM talking about a car here dudes!
Most cars, even the more exotic ones look great from most angles but almost always get let down by its arse (some say bum, rump etc). There really isn't a valid reason why any other rear end would look good anyway right? Unless it's a 911. The 911 bum shape is totally & utterly out of necessity first, because of the engine hanging out the back, but then also due to the need for aero around the car. This is why they are so good at high speed stability. Plus they just look so bloody awesome in the metal from the back.
Naturally beauty is in the eye of the beholder but please take a moment to behold the absolutely stunning perfect proportions of the beautiful 997 911 Sport Classic below.
I love the side mirrors protruding just above hips. Oh & the duck-tail! (another cold shower needed)
I think the 997 Sport Classic is one of the prettiest rear ends on the planet. Its utterly perfect right down to the dual sport exhaust pips & little aero ports on either side. What's not to like?
So actually not sure you know this but I am a purist. Guys who mod & hot up their Porsches are fine & I love to see & hear their cars. I have a few on them in my group of Porsche mates, one of them would literally begin modding his car (always a 911) as soon as it arrived. Sometimes he would already have the parts on the way before it arrived. Nothing wrong with that but for me, I like the car as it left the factory.
Well you gotta know factory fresh & original is better for resale too. Try to get a Squillion $$ for a 2.7RS with an after market radio, air conditioning & a mumbo 3.6L retrofit engine it, phat chance! But also I just can't see the point of putting a "better" exhaust on (for example) a 991 GT3 (see the cover pic they're also beautiful) because its been engineered with the factory exhaust & it sounds mental already.
But I must say there is a re-engineered brand that makes me go weak at the knees. And boy oh boy do these cars look absolutely incredible from the back. Of course I am talking about the Singer 911's. If only I had the money, the room, the money &...the money I would have one in a nanno second. Check this thing out now THAT'S a BUM
Someone give me the coin to order one of these and I will do some gardening & odd jobs around your house ok
I know that the front of a 911 is great, but it can be trumped by a lot of nice cars that aren't even Porsches. Brands like Mazzo, Aston, Lambo & Ferrari have some killer looking cars there is no doubt. But nothing beats the rear of a 911. Its an organic mix of smooth liquid wanderlust that always looks good. I love the way the water beads off the side of my 911's hips, which I can see from the perfectly positioned rear mirrors. Sure it takes my eyes off the road in the wet but hey I am still here so far.
Anyway I guess you can tell I am enamored with this primeval shape, which also looks good from the side too. And you'd be right. So to all you dudes out there that disagree no drama at all. The fact that we have an opinion about such matters in itself is a bloody great thing.
We car guys are all the same really, its just that we Porsche guys are always right!
Cheers & thanks for the read
