Better than 007's Aston Martin
The stunning Lola - Aston Martin B09/60
Aston-Martin decided to return to Le Mans in 2009, with the achingly beautiful Lola - Aston Martin B09/60. While the name might be a little bland, Aston's own code name for the vehicle was DBR 1-2, a throwback to its racers that had won the hallowed race on multiple occasions in the past.
Developed from the previous year's B08/60 LMP1 contender, Aston teamed up with Lola and Prodrive for an all out works assault for the 2009 Le Mans title. It used a 6 liter V12 engine, that reputedly pumped out 650hp. Aston entered the race with three cars - two (#007 and #009) under the AMR Eastern Europe banner, and one (#008) entry under Aston Martin Racing.
The AMR Eastern Europe cars were raced by Charouz Racing System, a Czech racing outfit. The cars wore the iconic Gulf livery and finished a commendable 8th, 9th and 17th in a year dominated by the diesel powered Audi R15 tDi and the winning Peugeot 908 HDi FAP machinery.
Despite the lack of podium success at Le Mans, the Astons were brilliant racers and won the 2009 LMS Drivers' and Constructors' Championships, cementing their place in history.
The model here is a limited edition 1:43 casting, released by Gulf - Aston Martin themselves.
