Bicester Heritage Scramble Sunday is the most photogenic car meet i've been to

California ain't got nothing on oxfordshire

I mean, please. Just look at these photos. I wasn't even trying. Just try and tell me how I could've improved my Sunday morning. It was spent wandering around with a cup of tea in one hand and my camera in the other, chatting with Joe Berry of Sons of Chump about world domination. Bliss.

California is great. They have the cheat code for great photos: beautiful lighting. You could put a Vauxhall Astra in the middle of Santa Monica on any given morning and make it look like a DB5. Taking good shots with the UK's constant overcast grey is a pain in the retina. But the backdrop to this car meet is heavenly.

The morning was so overwhelming we didn't organise ourselves to do the whole thing justice. The treacherous fog that's plagued the M4 over the past few weeks was back as we drove from North London to Bicester. But by the time we arrived at the Heritage Centre we were treated to the most wonderful creamy, atmospheric fog as a backdrop for the cars. There was a plan to find our favourite car and then ask the owner to drive it into the middle of the field and stage a quick photoshoot but we bottled it. I can only offer my sincerest apologies.

We didn't even get chatting to anyone else there. It was... a bit of a scramble. Actually, not quite. We did get to meet car photographer extraordinaire Amy Shore who was shooting from the hip like some kind of Wild West outlaw. Fan-girling from me abounded - I was utterly shameless although Joe kindly said afterwards that I'd played it quite cool.

Only thing I'd say is that £2 for a cup of tea with UHT rather than fresh milk is a *bit* cheeky. Deffo packing my thermos next time.

The next Sunday Scramble will be on 23rd April 2017 from 09.00am - 04.00pm. The postcode for your SatNav is OX26 5HA. For more information visit the website bicesterheritage.co.uk/events/ .

  • Great meeting, we were up there in the black Ranchero. It's been really well attended from day one! Added bonus I know a few of the companies up there so it's good to have a catch up with them too, a few of them open the door of the workshops for folks to look round which is nice.

  • We were blessed on Sunday morning with Traversée de Paris. The best array of classics in one place I've ever seen. Many yellow headlamps and euro cool black plates. All at the evocative Place de la Concorde. A commonality to enjoy these awesome cars and protest against the classic car ban of Paris. Photos on my IG @alibabasmart.
