black friday special: The Mercedes black series returns
Everyone knows that AMG is Mercedes' high performance department. They've released some of the most terrifying cars in the world, but at the same time, some of the most beautiful...
They combine a mixture of outstandingly high performance, luxury detailing, and the latest of technologies to produce a blend so exquisite, so sensational, it is considered to be one of the ultimate and most renowned high performance departments in the world.
Any Mercedes with an AMG badge embellishing its rear end is a force to be reckoned with. But is it the best?
AMG has a trick up their sleeve.
The AMG 'Black Series' was born in 2007 with a hardcore version of the SLK. It turned out AMG was just being nice, because the Black Series was in a whole new league of its own.
This new SLK had 400 horsepower and 384lb-ft of torque, lowering the 0-60 time from 4.9 seconds to just 4.5. The removal of the speed limiter also meant this Black Series could reach a massive 173mph. Big stuff.
The chassis had a complete overhaul as well with adjustable height and damping suspension, brakes - 360mm up front, and added rigidity with strut bracing across the engine bay. A limited slip differential also came as an option to the more serious owners, and lighter wheels reduced the unsprung mass. Carbon bits were added here and there to give it lightness, and more air ducting was introduced to keep that grizzling V8 well ventilated.
This wasn't it for the Black Series, however. AMG went on to produce four more Black Series cars. However, news just in. A new one is on the horizon.
It has been confirmed by Tobias Moers himself (boss man at Mercedes) that a new Black Series is in the works. It will be based on the 2017 SLS and will be a meaner, grittier, more evil version of what the SLS already is. If that is even possible. Well, soon we're going to find out.
The Black Series models have never been disappointing. Each one has been a beast unwilling to adhere to its owner, unwilling to be controlled, but that's why we love them. They are pure power and pure evil, and this new SLS AMG Black Series will be no different.
