BMW driver caught doing 248km/h down Melbourne highway

Funnily enough, it was travelling down the ironically named M3.

At 11pm on the 8th of July, Victoria Police observed a red BMW sedan travelling down Melbourne's M3 Eastlink Tollway near Thompsons Road at a whopping 248km/h. Gobsmacked by the absurd speed, the department dispatched a helicopter to track the car's location.

Travelling down the M3 - which is signposted as a 100km/h zone, the Police Air Wing followed the BMW as it exited onto the Nepean Highway at Seaford, before observing the driver dump his car and flee on foot.

Dispatching the local police dog squad, the 36-year-old Carrum Downs man was apprehended by local police in a nearby street.

Victoria Police have not disclosed the exact model of BMW, but it will be sitting at an impound lot for 30 days at a cost of $1,390.

In addition to this, the man was charged with multiple offences, including reckless conduct endangering life, driving while suspended and an array of other offences.

He will appear before the Frankston Magistrates' Court on the 6th of December.

    • It doesn’t say anything about MPH in it

    • It was a conversion. Kilometers per hour to miles per hour. 248km/h = 154.1 mph.

The person is an idiot for going 248km/h on a public road.
