BMW M5 Competition vs Mercedes AMG E63 S drag race - who wins?
The new F90 BMW M5 and the Mercedes AMG E63 S have met before in the medium of the drag race. The result of that particular battle was a win for the Mercedes - which is hardly surprising when you think about it. In S guise, the E63 produces 604bhp compared to the M5’s 592. In truth though, the real competitor for the S is the M5 Competition Package. And as luck would have it, they race in the video below.
Both cars prove to be great rivals in the above video, which I recommend you watch before we delve into the spoilers (you have been warned). The M5’s 4.4L Twin-Turbo V8 sends 616bhp to all 4 wheels in Competition spec, which helps it get ahead from the start of the first drag race, which is where it stays until the finish line.
In the second race - which started from 50mph - the Mercedes jumped away from the M5, and kept its lead until they’d run out of road. The AMG’s dominance in this race can be attributed to its monster 627lb-ft of torque, which outweighs the BMW’s 553lb-ft by quite a margin. The battle between these two came down to the final test.
The decider was a braking test, and with both cars on carbon ceramics, it could’ve gone either way. From 70mph however, the BMW just about managed to stop sooner than the Mercedes, giving it overall victory.
To conclude, I want to ask you guys: which one of these super-saloons would you buy if you could? Decide by voting below, and feel free to add a comment too.
