BMW Motorrad updates C 400 X and GT for 2021

THE month of May will see the arrival of BMW Motorrad’s updated C 400 X and GT scooters.

Both variants will benefit from a host of technical and style updates that will enhance road presence and rider experience.

The C 400 X and C 400 GT will be powered by an efficiency-optimised single-cylinder motor with a power output of 25kW and torque of 35Nm. Power is delivered via a CVT gearbox, and a torsionally stiff drivetrain swing arm.

An innovative bearing provides minimum vibration and maximum comfort. The engine has been equipped with an electronic throttle grip and an electrically operated throttle valve, as well as a new engine management system.

A modified matrix and coating of the catalytic converter, a wideband oxygen sensor, modifications to the cylinder head, a new sensor on the generator cover, an adapted wiring harness and modified idle speed control all feature.

The idle speed regulator in the airbox has been omitted and the idle speed control is now carried out via a throttle valve bypass and turbulence system. The revised drive ensures an even smoother and more sensitive throttle response, and increased idling stability.

Optimised springs for the centrifugal clutch also contribute to increasing engine running smoothness. Both models now also feature an optimised ASC system with automatic radius calibration. This replaces the manual calibration set-up of the outgoing model.

In addition, the new ASC is designed for significantly lower friction values than before. A more sensitive response and significantly increased regulation comfort, especially on wet and slippery surfaces, is noticeable when riding. Deactivating ASC is no longer necessary.

The brake system has also been revised. Thanks to new brake callipers, the double-disc brake system at the front now offers a more stable and clearly defined pressure point as well as improved roll-back behaviour of the brake pistons.

This is accompanied by aligned lever travels for the rear brake on the left and the front brake on the right, for a symmetrical braking feel.

The optimised lighting of the storage compartment under the seat bench significantly improves comfort. The lighting now no longer comes from the side but from above for even better illumination.

In addition to the 12-volt onboard socket, the front right storage compartment is now equipped with a USB charging socket.

As before, the new BMW C 400 X and C 400 GT also feature the unmistakable design language of BMW Motorrad. Modern and future-oriented looks befit this philosophy on both models.

The C 400 X will be offered in two standard colours, Granite Grey Metallic and Black Storm Metallic, and one premium colour scheme; Black Storm Metallic/Racing Blue Metallic Matte.

The C 400 GT will be offered in Alpine White and Callisto Grey Metallic as standard, with the option of Black Storm Metallic, which is paired to a Triple Black style option.

Pricing for the 2021 BMW Motorrad C 400 X will start from $9,900 plus on-roads, while the C 400 GT starts at $10,340 plus on-roads. Both variants will be available in an ‘ion’ package as well.

This adds a daytime riding light, keyless ride, colour TFT display with connectivity and comfort package (heated grips and seat heating). Pricing for the C 400 X ‘ion’ starts from $11,490. The C 400 GT ‘ion’ starts from $12,090, with both prices plus on-roads.
