Great Wall Motors saw their share price rocket by 14% following speculation that BMW are to partner with the Chinese car manufacturer to produce the iconic British born Mini.

Following the release of the Mini EV hatchback at the Frankfurt Motorshow, Mini fans have been left stunned by the recent speculation. BMW say that the idea is to have Great Wall Motors produce an export which would bring the production of the Mini outside of Europe for the first time in history. In September, the Chinese government announced that all car manufacturers would need to produce a minimum number of electric vehicles, which could partially explain BMW's decision however an official statement is yet to be released on the exact details.

  • I don't know if a chinese MINI production means the decrease of the price. The new electric Countryman will cost 38,900 euros.

    • Could well do. Chinese cars aren't known for their high quality. I hope this doesn't damage the brand image for the sake of saving money. Only time will tell!

    • More than the quality, I think Chinese products need to be performing. German carmakers have built their reputation on that. Wait and see for China as you say!
