Bollywood stars and their jolly good cars
The 5 B-town megastars with the coolest car collections
Bachchan cheesing at the wheel of his Cayman S
The unmistakable, deep and gravelly voice of Amitabh Bachchan has been a staple of Indian television and film for over four decades. His huge success is even more admirable given the constant rejection he faced early in his career, often being told he was too dark-skinned to be a leading man.
umm... maybe he thought it would be fun to own the EXACT OPPOSITE of his Rolls?
His car collection is impressive in both its size and variety. The biggest surprise is probably his ownership of a modest, little red Mini Cooper - but he has his fair share of luxuries as well. There are too many to name, but other highlights include a 300bhp Porsche Cayman S, and - most famously - a Rolls Royce Phantom, which was gifted to him as thanks for his performance in 2007’s ‘Eklavya’
Not a bad gift for appearing in a film which flopped at the box office...
Shah Rukh Khan
When it comes to fast cars, here is a man who doesn't f**k around
Given his nickname ‘The King of Bollywood’, you’d expect SRK to own a serious fleet of cars, and he doesn’t disappoint. The crown jewell of his collection is an all-black Bugatti Veyron; one of the world’s great hypercars.
A man so cool, he can almost get away with jeans and flip flops. Almost.
Many Bollywood stars drive a rather samey selection of big comfortable Audis and Range Rovers, but SRK clearly likes to stand out from the crowd, also owning a white BMW i8 - The hybrid performance car with speed to rival an M3, and styling from the year 2050. Of course, being a megastar, he needs at least one car that enables him to keep his head down and blend in with the crowd form time to time: which probably explains why he also drives a Mitsubishi Pajero.
They can't all be winners...
Priyanka with her pride and joy
Chopra is one of Bollywood's most admired stars, recently featuring in Time Magazine’s list of the 100 most influential people in the world. I doubt many people on that list could say that they have also won the Miss World contest - which P-Chop did aged 18. Quite a resume...
Nice, but it's no Rolls Royce
As far as her taste in cars, comfort seems to be the main criteria. She has a personalised Rolls Royce Ghost, but just in case that catches fire or something, she also owns a Mercedes S-Class. And a Mercedes E-Class. And a BMW 7 Series. FANCY SHAMNCY.
Nice, but it's no Mercedes S-class
*Hums Ace of Spades by Motorhead*
As well as being a car lover, this hunk of Hindi films is a keen biker and football fan - at least we assume he is, since he owns many powerful superbikes… and his own football club.
John Abraham likes his cars patriotic. There is no other explanation for this.
Abraham’s selection of vehicles exudes Indian pride, particularly his one-of-one chopper: the Rajputana Lightfoot - A stunningly re-bodied Royal Enfield - and his Maruti Gypsy, which is India’s answer to the baby SUV. He has a few tasty imports too though, including a blisteringly fast Nissan GT-R.
A real petrolhead's car. Face rippingly fast.
Not Salman's actual Rangie. That's probably evidence now...
It would probably save time to list the cars that Salman Khan doesn’t own, rather than the ones he does. To start with, he owns pretty much every SUV ever made, from a Lexus LX and Range Rover to Mercedes GL and BMW X6.
If the Zombie apocalypse happens tomorrow, Salman Khan would be a good person to know.
Of course, Khan could probably be better described as notorious than famous these days. A Bollywood veteran of 30 years he may be, but in recent years he’s been in the news for… other reasons. You can google the unpleasant details if you wish, I’d rather not give specifics. Let’s just say he’s awaiting sentence on a charge of killing an endangered Indian antelope. If you know what I mean.
The ideal wheels to pull up at a movie premiere in. Or invade a medium-sized nation
His rather chequered recent past goes some way to explain his ownership of the maddest car on this list: a Mercedes S600 which has been converted to a fortress on wheels, with inch-thick bulletproof glass and a chassis reinforced to withstand explosions from beneath. Very impressive, but when facing court cases, it probably isn't wise to drive around in a Bond villain car.
