Valtteri Bottas is to contest the 2022 Race of Champions event in February.

He will represent Finland on the ROC's first ice based course which will be purpose built on the frozen Baltic Sea.

Traditionally the Race of Champions is run in a stadium or a race track with lots of possiblities for viewing. However ROC will run its first-ever ice-based edition of the race at Sweden’s Pite Havsbad.

Finnish F1 driver Bottas - recently informed of his imminent exit from Mercedes, signed a deal with Alfa Romeo to stay in F1 as the lead driver and has a plethora of experience racing on snow and ice. Bottas took part in Finland's Arctic Lapland Rally for three consecutive years in 2019, 2020 and 2021.

"I've competed in the Arctic Rally a few times so hopefully that experience will help as we aim to beat the strong competition and especially our Nordic neighbours from Sweden and Norway to add to Finland’s many wins both in the individual ROC and the ROC Nations Cup," stated Bottas.

Nine-time grand prix winner Bottas is just the latest name on the entry list of the all-star event, alongside fellow Scandinavians Tom Kristensen, Mattias Ekstrom, Johan Kristoffersson and Petter Solberg.

As in Formula 1, his teammate is yet to be officially announced.

Race of Champions president Fredrik Johnson has seemingly pursued Bottas for some time. He's a perfect fit for the event, combining a great deal of experience with a prominent name in motorsport.

"Valtteri has told us since several years that he would like to participate in the Race Of Champions and we are very happy that he is finally able to make his ROC debut in our first ROC World Final on Snow & Ice."
