Brawn vs Brains- Ford GT takes on the Dodge Challenger Demon on the drag strip
Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is aking of the drag strip when it comes to production cars. Equipped with a 6.2 litre supercharged V8 pushing 840bhp and 1022nm of torque (with100 octane race fuel) and an 8-speed automatic 'box it has 0-60 time of just 2.3 seconds, making it the quickest accelerating petrol car.
With the Demon crate adding fat drag radial tires at the back and skinny light wheels up front the demon is a drag-racers wet dream, and a complete opposite to the smart and technologicall advanced Ford.
The new Ford GT is a sleek Le Mans racer turned into a road car, it dropped it's V8 in favour of the 'Ecoboost' 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 with 'just' 647bhp send through a 7-speed DCT 'box designed for something like the circuit De La Sarthe, not a Florida's airstrip. So it's nearly 200hp down on power, it has some key advantages though, the wedge shape makes it quite aerodynamic and the Carbon Fibre body makes it about 400kg lighter than the Challenger which has aerodynamic properties of a brick.
So who wins? The guys from aptly named Drag Times have the answer:
Go to about the 5 minute point to see both cars top out at well over 150mph and find out which one takes the crown after a mighty close finish.
