BREAKING: Alonso to Test Indycar on Road Course
The 37 year old Spaniard is expected to strap into an Indycar sometime next month
The freshest news out of so called 'Alonso-mania' today, was the the 2 time F1 champion is slated to test an Andretti Autosports Honda on an Indycar sanctioned road course some time next month. The news, first broken by Racer Magazine and later confirmed by multiple sources, comes as the Indycar Nation eagerly awaits the announcement of what Alonso will do in the 2019 season, having announced his retirement from F1 yesterday.
The details on the test are extremely vague, but it is believed that Barber Motorsports Park and Portland International Raceway believed to be the two prime venues under consideration.
If Alonso were to race Indycar in 2019, his team choice still remains unclear, although the news of his test with Andretti seems to solidify the growing rumors of a Harding/Andretti team-up that would allow for Michael Andretti's squad to run up to 6 cars, with at least one of them co-branded as a McLaren.
Engines seem to remain a sticking point for a potential Alonso entry, with sources within Honda being very reticent of entering into a partnership with McLaren/Alonso again, following their disastrous 3 year partnership in F1.
Stay tuned to Don't Turn Right as more and more Alonso news continues to break. We also cover somethings to do with current Indycar drivers as well.
