BREAKING NEWS: Pourchaire to make F2 debut in Bahrain
The Formula 3 rookie moves one step closer to Formula 1.
Who was Your Formula 3 Driver of the Season?
Theo Pourchaire (runner up in the 2020 Formula 3 Championship) will get to make his Formula 2 debut this November as he joins the HWA Racelab team for the penultimate round of racing in Sakhir.
The Frenchman will replace fellow 2020 F3 race winner Jake Hughes at the German outfit - who stepped up for round 10 in Sochi - as he bids to earn a drive in the second tier for 2021. Driving alongside him will be regular Formula 2 driver Artem Markelov - who currently sits down in eighteenth place in the Driver's Championship with five points. When he gets going for the first time in Bahrain, he will become the youngest driver on the grid - he recently turned 17.
Pourchaire – who is a member of the Sauber Driver Academy – won the junior title in his first season of single-seater racing in French Formula 4, before taking the ADAC F4 Championship title a year later. In Formula 3 this year, he won twice and got onto the podium a total of six times, impressing many up and down the grid. If he can get his hands on some points across the weekend of racing, there's a good chance he'll be racing for the full season in Formula 2 next year.
