BREAKING NEWS: Russell Replaces Hamilton at Mercedes
Aitken will take Russell's place at Williams.
Mercedes have confirmed that Williams driver George Russell will step in for Lewis Hamilton at this weekend's Sakhir Grand Prix after the 7-Time World Champion Tested Positive for Covid-19.
He will be partnering up with Valtteri Bottas who hopes to secure second place in the Driver's Championship.
Russell has extensive experience driving for Mercedes, as he has completed six days of running for the world champions since 2017. His most recent run was in last year’s end-of-season Abu Dhabi test.
George made his F1 debut last year with Williams and has marked himself out as a future star with a string of strong drives and impressive qualifying performances in a lower-half-of-the-grid car.
He will miss this weekend's Sakhir Grand Prix.
Russell has yet to score a point, but has come close, finishing 11th once and 12th twice. Maybe this weekend, he finally will score his first points in Formula 1.
His performances in qualifying have also been particularly impressive, the 22-year-old unbeaten against his two team mates to-date in 36 consecutive races.
Formula 2's Jack Aitken will step up in his role as test driver for Williams and race for them alongside Nicholas Latifi this weekend as Russell goes to Mercedes.
It's going to be an awesome weekend to be a Formula 1 fan for sure. What do you think of this news? Let me know in the comments below.
