BREAKING NEWS: Sergio Perez Leaves Racing Point
He'll bow out at the end of 2020.
Sergio Perez is set to leave Racing Point at the end of the 2020 season. No announcement has been made yet as to who will replace him but the most likely candidate is Sebastian Vettel - who's had links to the team in the recent past.
It comes as a bit of a surprise considering Perez signed a three year contract with the team last year and was instrumental in making sure the team didn't go under before Lawrence Stroll and his consortium bought the team back in the summer of 2018. The team went into administration prior to this with Perez putting his own money into the team in order to save it.
Perez says he currently doesn't have a Plan B for Formula 1 for next year which leaves everyone now wondering what he's going to do. It will be a shame if we lose him from the sport completely as he's arguably one of the best mid field drivers currently on the grid.
With Vettel being linked to the team earlier this year, it seemed likely Perez might leave should Vettel join the team. With Lance's Dad owning the team, it always seemed unlikely (even if logical) to get to rid of him over Perez should this situation arise. There is also some speculation that Nico Hulkenberg could make a return to F1 with Racing Point next year but I don't know how likely it would be for Racing Point to drop Perez for Hulkenberg.
