Brendon Hartley walked away unharmed after a huge shunt in the final practice session for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.

The Toro Rosso driver looked to have suffered suspension failure when his right front wheel became detached at the end of the 200 mile per hour Wellington Straight, throwing him off the track, over the gravel and into the tyre barrier in a terrifying high speed crash.

Afterwards the team confirmed Hartley was unhurt, but was unable to explain why the accident happened.

They now face a race against time to see if they can get the car repaired in time for New Zealander Hartley to get out in qualifying, which starts at 2pm BST.
