The Yorkshire dales are often overlooked by tourists on their way to the Lake District or to Scotland because it's just somewhere you drive through to get to the far north. However, the Dales is actually home to one of the best driving roads in the UK and Clarkson approves.

The road in question is called Buttertubs Pass and it is located in between Kendal and Richmond. Heck, it's just down the road from where I live and I can confirm it is beautiful around there โ€“ not to be bias or anything...

What's more, if you keep on driving it, you'll end up at the highest pub in England which has been there since the 17th century โ€“ making it the perfect place to stop for a pie and a pint.

If you're ever in the area, make sure to take the time to check out this beautiful stretch of road that flows through the Yorkshire countryside. And who knows, you may bump into me... sloshed at the UK's highest pub.

Have you ever driven on this road before?

  • Yes! I drove my rented Smart Forfour on my last drive from London to St Andrews. Many great roads in that area.
