If you're somewhat concerned that Ford's new V6-engined supercar might be lacking in aural antics, then fear not – because it will come as standard with grin-inducing anti-lag system as standard.

This little detail was again highlighted today in a release confirming the new car's performance modes. The system is active in the Ford's 'Sport' and 'Track' mode, which are two of five on offer – the others being Normal, Wet, and V-max.

If you lift off the accelerator with the system on, the engine's ECU will automatically manage the air and fuel flow through the powerplant to ensure that hot gases continue passing through the turbochargers – a process which typically results in a pronounced popping or ripping noise.

This gas flow helps keep the turbos spinning, so boost builds far more quickly when you next step on the accelerator. With lag – the time between asking for power and enough exhaust gas being produced to spin up the turbocharger –
reduced, the car will be quicker and more responsive.

Each of the GT's modes delivers different handling and performance characteristics. Opt for Sport mode, for example, and you'll get more power from smaller throttle inputs, quicker gear changes and firmer shifts.

The ride height and damping gets lower and firmer as you switch to the more track-focused modes, too, while its rear wing position also alters; in Sport mode it comes up at 70mph, whereas in Track mode it's always up.

"We focused on simplifying the experience," said Derek Bier, Ford GT manager." "Optimising this car for just about any situation was critical, because ensuring owners always enjoy driving it was a top priority."

You'll also find the same anti-lag system in Ford's recently launched F-150 Raptor, which uses a similar 3.5-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost V6. Like the GT, you have to activate a specific mode – 'Baja', in this instance – to enable it to function.
