C8 Corvette ZR1 may have more power than a Dodge Demon
We already know that the C8 Corvette is a world beater. Every single review has said that it will be one of the best cars to come out in 2020, and likely in the last 10 years. The mid-engine layout has launched the normal Corvette into a completely new, supercar slaying territory.
As we learn more about the car, the rumor mill is FLYING with what ifs and tidbits. The latest of these being the C8 ZR1. Traditionally the Corvette has a few variants including the base model, the Z51 package, the grand sport, the Z06 and the ZR1, among others. This rumor is about the ZR1 and hooooo boy if this is true it's going to be good.
Apparently some have caught wind that the upcoming ZR1 will have more than 900hp, pushing it higher than the Dodge Demon. Here's where it will be even better: it's reportedly supposed to be a hybrid.
Now many corvette purists may balk at that statement, but I believe that is a huge advantage. Remember what hybridization has done for the halo cars out of Europe like the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, and the Ferrari LaFerrari? Hybrids don't necessarily mean gas sipping Priuses.
The hybrid system could come in the form of electric motors driving two or all of the wheels, but the most likely scenario is to have two motors driving the fronts making the car AWD during certain driving conditions.
The 900hp number is serious. That is pushing the ZR1 into hypercar territory and would cement the C8 as the most powerful OEM US-based car, ousting the Demon. We'll see if this actually happens, but in today's power hungry climate it's really not that far fetched to believe.
