C8 Corvette ZR1 may have more power than a Dodge Demon

New report says the C8 ZR1 will be a Demon slayer

1y ago

We already know that the C8 Corvette is a world beater. Every single review has said that it will be one of the best cars to come out in 2020, and likely in the last 10 years. The mid-engine layout has launched the normal Corvette into a completely new, supercar slaying territory.

As we learn more about the car, the rumor mill is FLYING with what ifs and tidbits. The latest of these being the C8 ZR1. Traditionally the Corvette has a few variants including the base model, the Z51 package, the grand sport, the Z06 and the ZR1, among others. This rumor is about the ZR1 and hooooo boy if this is true it's going to be good.

Apparently some have caught wind that the upcoming ZR1 will have more than 900hp, pushing it higher than the Dodge Demon. Here's where it will be even better: it's reportedly supposed to be a hybrid.

Now many corvette purists may balk at that statement, but I believe that is a huge advantage. Remember what hybridization has done for the halo cars out of Europe like the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 Spyder, and the Ferrari LaFerrari? Hybrids don't necessarily mean gas sipping Priuses.

The hybrid system could come in the form of electric motors driving two or all of the wheels, but the most likely scenario is to have two motors driving the fronts making the car AWD during certain driving conditions.

The 900hp number is serious. That is pushing the ZR1 into hypercar territory and would cement the C8 as the most powerful OEM US-based car, ousting the Demon. We'll see if this actually happens, but in today's power hungry climate it's really not that far fetched to believe.

  • All the negativity is bewildering. The basic c8 is a useable sports car that is reasonably priced.

    • Useable where? You can’t legally use the full potential of a 500 hp car on public roads. And $60,000 is not that affordable and not many will opt for the base model anyway.

    • Yes if you have a sports car you must use all of its full potential all the time??? Good job your not a race car driver you’d be in the wall at the first corner

  • Yet another insanely overpriced and over powered car that will just wind up crashed in the hedges at the hands of a more money than talent driver at the next cars and coffee. Want to build something impressive? How about a small useable sports car with a reasonable amount of horsepower, a real manual transmission and a balanced rear drive chassis. Apparently Mazda is the only company able to do this.

    • I have to agree that cars these days have become more of a cock swinging contest between brands than “a drivers car” so to speak. As impressive as it is to engineer something to go that fast, I still find it a bit useless.

The C8 is in Ford GT and...

    • I would expect nothing less than a Mazda as your choice for a performance auto with your mentality.

  • Supercar ... Megacar ... Hypercar ... it’s all very interesting from a former gearheads point of view ... which I am. I live in south Florida which is littered with every performance car in production today. I sit next to them at the stop light and marvel at the NASA level attention to detail and concourse paint. I roll down my window in the 95 degree heat so I can listen to the exhaust note as we move on to the next light where I get to gaze upon it all over again ... and so on and so on. Personally ... If I’m going to drop $70K to $120K on a toy, I’d rather it be a Formula Ford that I can actually race on the limit. Hell ... I’d rather take my Aprillia Tuono to a track day every other weekend and really get nuts. It would cost me a fraction, even with the broken bits and bones and give me far more satisfaction than parading down the freeway in the latest and greatest hypercar whose owner will seldom, if ever, drive even remotely close to its potential.

  • They should make it a hybrid and have it compete with the m6 and nsx & Ferrari California
