Scouting Out Monterey, Laguna Seca Raceway, Big Sur, Half Moon Bay, Sonoma, Napa, San Francisco prior to Monterey car week!

Article/Photos/Videos By: Migz (Christopher Migliozzi)

7/11/2018 - I found myself in California via a last minute work trip/vacation combination. I arrived at San Francisco International Airport and picked up my rental car... a Hyundai Sonata. We packed the car and headed to San Jose and LUCKILY the car was horrible, making all kinds of noises and vibrations. Once we checked into our hotel I headed to the car rental agency at San Jose airport for an exchange and returned with ... a 2018 Ford Mustang GT! After we settled back in our room, I started to configure plans for stops along our journey.

Day 2

I solo'd the Mustang to Laguna Seca Raceway the next morning (approximately 73 miles away) to visit one of my favorite tracks. My body was fueled with high test coffee and a breakfast sandwich, so I put it into sport mode and paddle shifted the entire trip, keeping it around 5,000 rpms. I safely advanced through the traffic with my trusty WAZE keeping me in line with updates to traffic patterns, emergency vehicles and reroutes when necessary.

Laguna Seca Raceway

The track was closed because MotorWeek was filming, but I managed to make my way to the ticketing and the administrative office to inquire about the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

It was a quick trip in and out but when I returned to the hotel I was down a full tank of gas and the fuel-up was $50.00 USD.

Friday The 13th Day 3 San Jose

We spent the end of day 3 scouting out the area and driving some mountain passes in San Jose.

It was the last working day before the real beginning of our vacation, so we headed back after our winding drives to pack and get ready for an early morning.
