Calvo Motorsport give this modded V10 Dodge Viper 3,000hp

At what point does a car have too much horsepower?

When it comes to modding all things Dodge Viper, then it's likely you have already heard of Calvo Motorsport who make some of the most powerful ones in the world.

This particular car has paid a visit to Calvo and has received quite an upgrade. It has a pair of 8686 turbos, a dry-sump lubrication system, MoTeC management with Ninjaeering tune, and a flex-fuel system. All this together produces a total of 3,076hp and 2,422 the wheels.

This means that if drivetrain losses didn't exist, the engine would be producing somewhere around 3,500 hp at the crank. If you aren't amazed by this, then are you really human? Is your company car a spaceship?

  • Had a friend who drove gen 1. Said he couldn't even touch the gas in first gear off the line or second. It would go sideways FAST. I know they sorted that out in subsequent generations but when you add two and a half times the OEM power rating there is going to be some tail wagging. This mad scientist went full drag with slicks and bead lockers - a good idea. Without those bead lock those tires would stay planted while the wheels spin inside them. That was an issue on the Camaro(forget which model). They had to put grooves in the wheel to hold the tires in place! This is WAY beyond that paltry power rating. Only place to drive this IS the strip.

Too much? Nope. Top Fuel guys laugh at 3k.

This is not a street car and really couldn't even be driven in the street. Slicks aside.

  • This is an example of a car having too much speed and power. Respect to these guys for getting that much out of it, but it is very silly.

    • Not if they plan go drag racing. This thing seems like it’s primed for TX2K or FL2K.

  • This may be controversial but

The only purpose a car with 3,000 hp will ever have is giving the owner the ability to tell people they have a car with 3,000 hp. That is it.

    • ... ... ... and drag racing. Why does everyone forget that exists when ever there’s an article about an extremely powerful car?
