Camo-covered 2023 Honda Civic Type R is ready to take on the ‘Ring

It looks pretty good, doesn’t it?

Honda is still working on the 2023 Civic Type R and now that they’ve camo-wrapped it, they’re ready to test it around the Nürburgring.

It’s entirely covered in camouflage but it’s easy to spot some of the key design features of the Type R. Apart from the rear wing, it is lower than the standard Civic and the wheels are larger, and fitted with Brembo brakes (with red calipers) and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. There’s a larger air intake at the front and an amazing centre-mounted triple-pipe exhaust at the rear.

Honda hasn’t revealed any details about pricing and they haven’t shared any pictures of the interior either so we can only speculate. The cabin will likely look a lot like the standard Civic except for the inevitable Type R badging and logos, and (hopefully) bucket seats.

Interestingly, Honda didn’t say which engine they’re going to use but the Type R will likely use an upgraded version of the 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four as the current-gen hot Civic, sending 300+ hp to the front wheels. By the way, there are rumours about a potential AWD hybrid version with 400+ hp.

  • It looks like the styling is going to be much smoother and less cluttered than the previous generation.

Not happy about seeing the triple exhaust though.

  • It looks better than the last one. Though I wish they'd stop putting the spoiler straight across the rear windscreen, that's so annoying. Also I'm hoping it's AWD, but that's probably too optimistic.

    • You don't see the wing when looking through your rear view mirror
