CAN I MAKE THE BMW IX LOOK GOOD?
It's bad, but is it fixable?
Have you seen the BMW IX? It is a battery-powered EV with which BMW aims to move on into the future of cars.
Upon seeing this car I was left bewildered as to why someone would put those giant kidneys on an EV. Seriously, why?
I heard somewhere that the reason BMW had to start putting those giant grilles on cars is because more efficient engines need more cooling. I thought of the giant kidney era as of a temporary state. I hoped that with the transition from internal combustion engines to electric power, BMW would once again start putting normal-sized kidneys on their cars, as now they would be just a cosmetic element. I was wrong.
The ludicrous grille is just one of many problems with the IX: The headlights look nothing like those of a BMW, the flat fender flares look as if a part of the car was sawed-off and the bumper looks... I cannot even express that emotion with words. Just look below the grille:
What happened here?
It is as of someone layered two identical pieces on top of each other, as if the car was assembled from pieces of different models which were crudely welded onto each other. "Confusion of the highest order" is perhaps the most accurate description of the feeling I had when I first saw this feature.
Being who I am, a self-proclaimed expert on design that is, I had to fix this poor BMW. This projects took my GiMP skills to the limit as I couldn't find a way to draw realistic headlights. Still, I hope you understand what my concept was and can give your opinion on this car.
