Sure, the new Toyota GR Yaris is great fun on the road and is full of rally-pedigree, but how does it fare in a wet drag race? No, this isn't a euphemism, instead this is a drag race in the rain...grow up.

In order to put it through its paces, Carwow have put one up against the brand new Honda Civic Type R to see which one is better in a straight line.

What are the specs?

Honda Civic Type R:

- 2.0L turbocharged engine

- 320hp

- 400Nm of Torque

- FWD

- 6-speed manual gearbox

- Weighs 1,380kg

- Price: £32,820

Toyota GR Yaris:

- 1.6L turbocharged engine

- 261hp

- 360Nm of Torque

- AWD

- 6-speed manual

- Weighs 1,280kg

- Price: £33,495

Were you surprised at the result?

  • Since when were hot hatches a topic for straight line speed? Weren't they just supposed to be fun little hatch cars to "drive" around as a daily or on a track if they so wish?

  • Does it really matter? Hot hatches have never been about drag racing. But I’d expect the AWD GR to be quicker off the mark.
