Can You Live With A 700 BHP V8 Supercharged Jeep Trackhawk?
Can you seriously use this Jeep as a daily?!
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is an SUV that has always intrigued me. The Trackhawk is loaded up with the 707BHP 6.2 V8 Supercharged HEMI engine found in the likes of the Dodge Demon and produces a Staggering 0-60 time of just 3.5 seconds. Whats more impressive is that it delivers this time carrying a weight of nearly 2500kg. When Jeep first got in contact with me to have the SUV for a day at the end of last year I was completely gutted that I was unable to make the dates work. I was sure that the opportunity to had disappeared and I would be left thinking what it would be like to drive instead of actually getting behind the wheel of one. Well… I was wrong. I managed to get my hands on the Trackhawk before it was to be sent back over to Italy and my word what an impressive bit of kit.
If i had one this is where i would take it! one can dream (and photoshop) right?
Lets start with the sound. When you plant your foot down to the ground you are immediately pushed right back into the seat but you are also greeted with a symphony of American muscle. The supercharger whine coupled with the sound of a thirsty V8 is a recipe for a seriously spicy experience. The Trackhawk does straight line speed very well, almost too well actually. This car has enough power and grunt to keep up with supercars on a drag strip. But what happens when you see a corner? Does the Trackhawk embrace the corner or does it struggle to get round it? Well, for the size and weight of the car I think it does a pretty good job. The Bilstein dampers definitely help to reduce the roll and the huge Brembo calipers and discs do a great job at stopping you. When accelerating in the Trackhawk you forget that you are in an SUV that weighs close to 2500 kgs but at speed when you need to plant the anchors it’s a slightly different story. You feel a huge amount of weight shifting to the front axel as it tries to come to a stop.
That 6.2 v8 supercharged HEMI engine is just glorious!
The Trackhawk looks the part. It has such an aggressive front end and the quad exhausts at the rear makes people question what it actually is. The Trackhawk turns heads and scares people as this SUV goes flying past making noises almost as if lucifer is trying to crawl out from under the bonnet. It’s an incredible SUV to drive, it left a smile on my face each time planted it and unleashed all 700 BHP through its 4wd platform. The Jeep even has a launch control button, it was recommended that I not use the launch control on the public roads due to the acceleration being so aggressive and that it sends 70% of the power through the rear wheels. Driving it off launch was quick enough but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity to drive something this quick that I had to try it. So I did.. on private land, near an airfield and I got two of my friends reactions too. Lets just say none of us were expecting what happened. You can see both videos on the Trackhawk over on my Youtube Channel (www.youtube.com/stefabtv).
Dont mind me.. Just exploring in a 700 BHP Jeep..
As an everyday car I think it will be a bit of a challenge to drive here in the UK. Unleashing all of the power in the UK is both unnecessary and dangerous. You will not get much economy out of the car, on a run you may be lucky to get 20mpg. It does however tick off all the boxes for a large family who need ample boot space. This model has rear screens to keep the kids entertained as you fight the urge to stay sensible with the throttle pedal. Whoever decided that creating the Jeep Trackhawk would be a good idea was targeting a very niche audience of petrol heads. For this reason alone I love this car. In a world where everything is moving towards electric/hybrid engines it’s refreshing to see such a ludicrous engine with such mind blowing performance figures still focusing on smiles per mile.

Why don’t dodge put that awd drive train in hellcats or in demon? If they can fit it it would be fun.
Would be insane as a 4wd!
I saw season three ep1. In that episode it was madness what the owners of demon has to go through to get that kind of 1/4 times. I suppose ECU and center consol switch can be changed once but changing front to skinnies aren’t just practical. But...
Read moreIt’s an amazing car and I would consider it if I was in the market for one, however I just wouldn’t be able push myself to spend that much on a Jeep, same goes with the Dodge Demon. Over here at least, the Jeep is the price of a nicely equipped Mercedes GLE/GLS. The Demon is almost Huracan money though due to taxes. Do you really need 700hp+ if you don’t use it on the track? And the fuel here in Australia is expensive too. Persuade me otherwise on the Jeep though!
Powerrrrrr! Great read and vid!
Shared to the D_TRB USA facebook page Stef!
