CAR SALE CHALLENGE 2
Amogh Hampiholi and James. Were tied for 1st in the last challenge so I made the executive decision to award James's daihatsu copen the win.
Now then, onto today's challenge.
As a fan of top gear (divisive I know) I have naturally watched the britcar episode more times than I can count. The diesel 3 series was a solid choice for the event given what they had to achieve but I wonder if we on drivetribe can do better.
With a liberal budget of £15,000 to buy and modify your car, can you come up with a car to compete in the lower divisions of the britcar 24 hour race. A car with good power and fuel efficiency is paramount here and I doubt if a high miler with a suspicious amount of recent work on it is going to cut it. That is where the challenge lies.
I'll be running a BMW 320d touring for this one. The coolness of a black estate is undeniable and the reliable and fast car underneath that cool exterior works for me. It might seem like a bit of a gip that I'm using practically the same car as the effort we're trying to beat but hear me out. A set of good tires will probably eat a couple of grand and the roll cage won't be cheap either. A bit of weight reduction and some performance engine bits should take us up to about 12k and the rest will go on more fuel capacity and a service to make sure it's in good nick before the race.
Let's see what you can do though.

A diesel 0-60 in between 0-5 seconds with 60 mpg. It doesn’t give much money for the modifications but the car Itself is good so… id probably get track tires
And AWD aught to help if it rains. Great pick
Thanks
I’ll need about £6k to turn anything into a race car, add another £3k for tyres, wheels and a long range fuel tank and I have £6k to play with. I’d also like a diesel (for fuel efficiency). What I found was this Volvo. The mileage is a little high, but those engines are good for 500k miles. Speaking of the engine, it’s the diesel version of Volvo’s 2.4 litre 5 cylinder engine. I’m not sure I’d get a class win in this (although reliability is more important than outright speed) but it would be

I like this car a lot. I should have expected you to do well Sam.
Thanks! I just thought it would be a bit more interesting than the sea of BMWs and Audis
Thanks for the prize, I'm really enjoying these
Glad you enjoy them
