Carrera Panamericana Stage 1
Following Team 122 on the Carrera Panamericana
Results are in for stage 1 of the Carrera Panamericana running from Oaxaca to Veracruz. Cold, wet conditions made the mountain roads out of Oaxaca even more treacherous.
A rare sunny moment on Stage 1 of the Carrera Panamericana
The sun broke through on occasion but didn't last long. By the time they reached the coast for the high speed run into Veracruz the rain was heavy. Despite the adverse weather conditions our friends Angie and Gabriel in the team 122 Studebaker champion managed an average speed of 95.1kph putting them in 3rd place, on the podium for day 1.
Angie with the day 1 trophies for 3rd place
They currently sit just 1.37 seconds behind the race leaders, so are off to a great start! Studebaker Champion's are a popular choice of car on the Carrera and have a great track record. 1950's Studebakers currently occupy the top 3 places of the leader board with 70's Porsches in 4th and 5th position. I'm following the race closely with everything crossed for Angie and Gabriel to secure victory on the 70th anniversary of their favourite race!
