Spring is here and Easter weekend is upon us. Yes, on Sunday we’ll be searching every inch of our gardens for chocolate eggs only to realise half an hour in that we’re adults and live alone. For the Russian Tsars before the revolution, chocolate was the last thing on their minds over Easter thanks to a little artist called Fabergé.

The Fabergé brand is known for its yearly creation of a uniquely decorated, highly valuable egg that it would send to the Emperor and his family. The tradition started on Easter 1885 and the jeweller has continued to make eggs each year for the Christian holiday.

In 2018, House of Fabergé and Rolls Royce came together to create a beautifully designed egg inspired by the luxury automotive brand’s cars.

The base upon which the egg rests is made of 18-carat white gold coated in purple enamel and has been hand engraved to give extra detail. The shape of the egg is defined by 12 arms encasing the precious treasure hidden in the centre. In fact, all Fabergé eggs have beautiful designs or sculptures locked in their centre somewhat like the precious yolk that must be protected at all costs by the shell.

By triggering the intricately manufactured opening mechanism, those arms formed by rose gold vanes with amethyst tips open up to reveal a miniature version of the Spirit of Ecstasy. The figurine is hand-sculpted from frosted rock crystal and sits on yet more rose gold covered in 10 carats of round white diamonds.

This particular egg is just the second Imperial Egg – the type made for the Romanovs – to be made since the Russian revolution. In the past, eggs of this class have been sold at auction for huge amounts at auction. The most recent of which was the Third Imperial Fabergé Egg made in 1887 that reached the hefty sum of $33 million in 2014.

    • Well. So is any luxury item if you think about it like that. I love the design that's gone into it.

  • Just a useless item in times like this.

Build something for medical use like every other car manufacturer out there.

  • It looks like something that came out of a Harry Potter movie
