Chaos in the qualifying race at the Macau Grand Prix

The qualifying race for the FIA GT World Cup in Macau has come to a premature and rather messy halt after a multi-car pile up in the ultra-tight right hander of Police bend.

While fighting for the lead, Daniel Juncadella's Mercedes hit the wall towards the exit of the narrow street circuit corner, collecting defending GT World Cup winner Laurens Vanthoor in the process. His 911 GT3R leaped sideways, blocking the road and with it the high-speed progress of a further 14 cars.

The race was red flagged and a restart scheduled for later in the day. Sadly for Vanthoor and teammate Romain Dumas, their GT3R was heavily damaged.

Postscript. Everyone at the Porsche tribe was very saddened to hear of the death of Topgun Racing Honda rider Daniel Hegarty at the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.
