Chelsea DeNofa takes Formula Drift Round 5 in Seattle
DeNofa, Tuerck, and Hughes take the podium spots at FD Round 5.
This weekend, Formula Drift's Round 5 of the 2021 Championship brought the competitors to Evergreen Speedway outside of Seattle, Washington. Fans say it was one of the most entertaining Formula Drift events in recent years.
The event started with Michael Essa qualifying in first place. He ended up making it to Top 8, but got knocked out by Dylan Hughes who ended up with his first ever Pro level podium and took 3rd place.
Ryan Tuerck grabbed the 2nd place spot on the podium, but could not even attempt to grab 1st place. His car overheated and he had to bowout of competition allowing Chelsea DeNofa to grab yet another win and get a victory lap-bye run. Matt Field grabbed 4th place.
Formula Drift reported that the judges requested "One More Time" (OMT) 8 different times and 7 drivers used their lone allotted 5-min Competition Time Outs during the round.
After the round the 2021 FD Championship standings got shaken up. DeNofa knocked Field down to second place, but by some math wizardry is only sitting 1 point ahead of him - 419 and 418 points respectively. Fredric Aasbo is holding down 3rd place with 366 points. Aurimas "Odi" Bakchis has 4th place with 334 points and Seattle 2nd place taker Tuerck is holding down the last spot in the Top 5 with 327.
Formula Drift will return August 27-28 for FD St Louis at World Wide Technology Raceway.
