We've known for a while that the 2020 C8 Corvette was quick. Motor Trend did their own independent testing on the first ever mid-engined 'vette and got a staggering 2.8s 0-60 time. Which makes the C8 quicker to 60 than a hand full of supercars including the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, McLaren 675 LT, Ferrari 458, and new Ford GT (which is a true shocker).

But everyone up until this point was reporting their own data. That's great, but we haven't heard it from the horses mouth, so to speak. Ie, Chevy never confirmed the numbers.

Well now they have and that cements the C8 and a true world beating car.

Here's the official announcement from Chevy's media newsroom:

"Jaws dropped when Chevrolet first announced the 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray coupe would accelerate 0 to 60 mph in less than three seconds with the available Z51 Performance Package. Today, the brand confirms the sportscar with the available Z51 Package can reach 60 mph in 2.9 seconds and cross the quarter mile mark in 11.2 seconds at 121 mph.

Even without the available Z51 Package, a base Stingray, starting at $59,995 (including destination charges, excluding tax, title, license, and dealer fees), can reach 60 mph in three seconds flat and cross the quarter mile mark in 11.2 seconds at 123 mph. Performance numbers may vary, as different climates, tire conditions and road surfaces may affect results."

So the base C8 will do it in 3.0s and the Z51 package in 2.9s. I think I speak for all of us when I ask the following question: how freaking fast will the Z06 be? We all know it's coming, but will is be sub 2.5s in 0-60? Will it take on a McLaren Senna in track prowess? I mean good lord.

Seeing these numbers, you can't help but wonder why Chevy didn't do this 10 years ago with the Corvette. I cannot wait to drive this thing in 2020!
