Chris Harris drives the world's first Porsche
First introduced in 1939, the Type 64 was a new and exciting prospect from the German car brand, Porsche. In fact, this was the first car to ever wear the horse from Stuttgart badge. It comes with a measly sounding 32 hp from what is essentially a Beetle engine but has a claimed top speed of 88 mph which seems astonishing.
To the untrained eye, you would think it just looks like something out of Area 51, but in fact it has been designed this way for, yes you guessed it, ultimate aerodynamics. The body itself is held in place by 2,000 rivets. How riveting. Chris explains that this design is a work of Hungarian aircraft technology and that it is essentially a plane on wheels. You can really see this too. This is the humble beginnings of what is now the best sports car money can buy., this is the essence of the 911.
Now, there aren't many cars that leave motoring journalist, Chris Harris lost for words, but this one did. I hope you enjoy the video as much as I did!
