Ciaz : Which variant should you consider? or not! (Cheap Luxury)

The last facelift was introduced back in 2018.

Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is the cheapest deal in its segment and as you all know, they have a huge service network which makes its ownership better. Most probably buying the base variant of this car makes sense to a lot of people. But still, we will discuss all the variants of this car with prices and which variant is the one to best to buy and which alternative you can choose over Ciaz.

Colors

Sigma MT Price ₹8,93,974

The base variant of Ciaz comes with practical features like electrically adjustable ORVMs, keyless entry, all power windows (Dr. side auto up/down with anti pinch), rear AC vents, front and rear center armrest, Rear defogger, Auto day/night IRVM, 4 speakers and 2 tweeters, steering mounted audio and call controls. As a base variant it is a quite good but it is not the only deal of a cheap and practical mid size sedan you can have around this price point.

A better alternative of base variant in less price

Skoda Rapid TSI Rider/Rider Plus variants are good alternatives of it in less price and a they come with a 100000kms or 4 year long warranty package and has good product quality reputation of its own. It is packed with a turbocharged engine too, so more fun with adequate mileage. Rapid is less than 100 mm shorter Ciaz, otherwise it is a perfect mid size sedan for you. Also it comes with touchscreen infotainment which is only available in the top variant of Ciaz. This might be a better alternative over the base variant of Ciaz.

Delta MT Price ₹8,93,974

This variant is priced around 60k more and here along with the features of the previous variant Sigma; it provides 15” silver alloy wheels, cruise control, automatic AC, height adjustable driver seat, electronic stability program with hill-hold and front fog lamps. It comes with some really useful features that make it a value for money and useful buy among all other variants of this car.

Zeta MT Price ₹9,70,974

The more you search for higher variants, the more you miss practical features and end up with fancy luxury things in your car. Here in the Zeta variant you will have to pay 86k extra over the last variant and this hike provides practical features like LED projector lamps, LED DRLs, LED rear combination lamp, push start/stop function, automatic headlamps, LED front fog lamps, Rear parking camera and electric foldable ORMVs. But the problem is that even if you are buying a 2nd base variant, you neither get a touch-screen display, nor more than two airbags.

So if you are looking for this variant then I’ll ask you to just skip it and go for the top variant which is just ₹ 27k away from this variant and comes with actual luxury and practical features. As most of the buyers who are able to pay 9.7 lacs can easily add 27k to their budget as that doesn't make a huge difference in EMI. So, let’s have a look at that

Alpha MT Price ₹9,97,689

In this variant you will get 16” precision cut alloy wheels, leather seat upholstery, 17.8cm(7") touch-screen smartplay infotainment system, inbuilt navigation system, Mirror-link supported for smartphone connectivity, Voice command system etc. along with some cosmetic changes.

Obviously, this variant provides much more premium features and seems to be a value for money increment, that's why I think you should go for this one avoiding the previous zeta variant. And the 2nd top variant doesn’t come with a few important features that you will definitely expect in a 2nd top variant nowadays. So as I said earlier that the top variant makes a lot much sense to buy than the Zeta.

Conclusion & some alternatives

None of these variants of Ciaz comes with more than 2 airbags or Sunroof or with a 3 year factory warranty and to be honest, that sounds like an outdated model currently. So paying a bit more price to other manufacturers makes a lot much sense than buying a Ciaz. By the way the variant called Ciaz S only comes with some cosmetic changes over the top variant so we didn't include that as another variant.

If you have a tight budget or you want less maintenance cost/ running cost or sometimes there's no nearby service center of the alternative manufacturer and you only have a Maruti service center nearby then Ciaz is the only option for you. Otherwise it is a really bad package in its segment, as it comes with 40000kms/2 year warranty whereas the competitors provide minimum 100000kms/3 year warranty. It lacks a lot of things that matters but its cheap on the other hand. We have listed some better alternatives of the Ciaz according to the variants below for your help.

Ciaz Variants Alternatives

Sigma : Skoda Rapid Rider Plus, Volkswagen Vento Trendline

Delta : Toyota Yaris J(O), Hyundai Verna S,

Zeta : Yaris G(O), Verna S

  • Ciaz isn't the cheapest. The Skoda Rapid claims that title.

    • Rapid is a bit shorter in length actually and that's why people tend to believe that rapid is a lower segment car. Btw I have put that in the alternatives.

    • True. The Rapid isn't as long as the Ciaz. Probably isn't as commodious either. But, it is a direct rival to the Ciaz and offers a great drive.

  • i still dont get it why Suzuki never made a 2 liter NA high revving engine for cars like honda did backin the day like theB18C engine, H22A, F20B. the suzuki engine in this car is small than the car itself.

    • As much as I have seen till date, Suzuki rarely tries to excel in the performance oriented market. Seems like, what matters to them most is the commuter segment where customers merely asks for high revving enthusiasm in a car. Instead they...

    • Suzuki actually has a 1.4 litre Boosterjet engine with 140 hp but doesn't come in any Indian model. The Swift Sport has it but is only available in European and japanese market and maybe in Indonesia.

    • I have never experienced Ciaz's build quality (I know that they reduce weight to improve mileage and reduce price but still I won't comment about that before experiencing it myself) but somehow it scored 4 star safety rating which kinda...

    • Yaris is an underdog of it's class. It has some good features and safety equipment for it's price..

    • Absolutely. If a buyer is looking for a cheap mid size sedan then Yaris is far better than the Ciaz.
