During today's EA Play event there was plenty of new announcements including more info about Battlefield 2042, a remake of Dead Space, and the thing you clicked on this article for, the next entry in the Grid series.

The standout feature shown in the trailer is the live action story mode which features real life actors using a technology known as extended reality, that's the same tech used by Disney to make The Mandalorian.

Other features to look forward to include what was described as 'over 130 routes' on tracks including real world race tracks like Brands Hatch and Indianapolis, as well as city circuits based in London, Moscow, Paris and more.

Like a lot of recent racing games, there will also be the option to make your own custom events. This will include the ability to choose race type, car class, time of day, and the option to add elements such as boost gates before publishing your event for everyone to play online.

Grid Legends is set to feature over 100 playable vehicles when it launches sometime in 2022 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC.

  • The one thing I like about the whole GRID series is the extensive single player, which is handy if your connection is down. But the street tracks are garbage with only 90 degrees turns and the rain, as far as I can tell, only affects the braking (traction overall seems unaffected). I have to say, so far nothing beats the very first GRID with the 24 hours of Le Mans driving, even as a hired gun.

  • I'm afraid EA will ruin the game with a cliche story mod.

  • Why does a racing game need a story? Seems like a way to push more political garbage in a game that should literally have nothing but helmeted drivers doing laps competitively.

PCars3 was garbage after Codemasters took it over, they ruined the PCars franchise. I wouldn't spend a single ass hair on this game.

    • Many racing games are fun with a little story, NFS most wanted and Driver San Francisco (although that ones over the top) are great examples
