Codemasters' F1 2021 Coming 16 July, Confirms Story Mode
Finally, a full saga for F1 fans
The officially-licensed F1 game is back for this year, and developer Codemasters has not only announced a release date, but also a big new expansion to an idea they've had a few years ago.
This being the first F1 game since Codies were bought out by Electronic Arts (thus bringing back F1 into the EA Sports fold), the announcement trailer is as cyptic as they come, but shows off the new "Braking Point" story mode that features the return of Devon Butler, one of the two rivals back in F1 2019's Formula 2 campaign.
How far will you go before you reach your “Braking Point”? It’s time for the next generation with F1® 2021
Other niceties include "Real-season-start" that lets you jump into a Career campaign on the same weekend as the actual F1 season, complete with reflected points standings as well as new teams Alpine and Aston Martin, as well as a new 2-player mode that allows two players to enter each other's campaigns for co-op or Ferrari-level shenanigans. Imola, Portimao and the new Saudi Arabia round will be coming later as DLC, but is confirmed to show up along with the rest of the 2021 locations. There's no indication of classic mode as yet, but seven classic drivers will be available on the returning MyTeam management mode.
The classic drivers are only available on the pre-order for the Digital Deluxe edition, though, so for the rest of you, you'll have to wait till 16 July to get it on PS4 + PS5, Xbox and Steam. And watch out for microtransactions, too: there's at most 23,000 of the in-game currency for those who pre-order.
