I don’t mean to be provocative and I wholly welcome Alfa’s return to form with the Giulia Quadrifoglio but doesn't it look, well, a little bit podgy? It’s definitely not ugly but viewed side on I can’t help but feel there’s too much metal above it’s wheel arches. When I stare too long the rear wheels begin to look an inch smaller than the fronts. Odd but true.
Having said that, I’d still take the Alfa over its German rivals and given the opportunity, this is how I’d spec the car.
Strangely, while I wouldn't want a red Ferrari the idea of a non-red performance Alfa doesn't bare thinking about. The Tri-coat Competizione Red is an expensive choice at £1,750 but its just too glossy to ignore.
The unimaginatively named ’Dark alloy wheels’ are just edged out by the equally original ‘Quadrifoglio alloy wheels’. The lighter colour of the latter provides a greater contrast with the paintwork that I enjoy.
A black interior with red stitching finishes things off. Lovely, despite my opening comments.
