Confirmed: Morgan is making a brand new three wheeler for 2022
Morgan is bringing back some good old three-wheeled fun!
Morgan has been spied testing what looks to be an overhauled second-generation version of its lightweight 3 Wheeler roadster and i'ts got a whole lot of people excited.
This comes just after the news at the end of last year when Morgan announced it would have to end production of its defining feature, the front-mounted V-twin engine as Morgan says this 1998cc motorcycle-derived 82bhp aircooled engine, supplied by American manufacturer S&S would become non-compliant with emissions regulations in 2021.
This means we won't be seeing this engine, but there are some rumours going about saying it will be something from BMW as they currenty supply engines to Morgan, but the smallest car engine they make is a 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder from the Z4 which would most certainly be too large for the three-wheeler. But, there is the possibility of using one of the German car maker's bike engines.
There were also talks of it being fully-electric, but Morgan had binned this idea a couple of years ago due to problems with its powertrain supplier and lack of technology at the time, making it unlikely we will see a zero-emissions one anytime soon.
As for its looks, we expect Morgan to give the 2022 three-wheeler a more streamlined front-end and an improved chassis along with an uprated suspension setup.
A first proper look at the all-new Morgan three-wheeler is set to be shown towards the end of the year before its release in 2022.
